Crisis Committees
What are Crisis Committees?
From historical to television series based committees, this year’s SCIMUNC Crisis Committees are sure to be exciting and interesting!
Our historical committees range from the Manhattan Project, Emu War, and the Red Scare. As the name suggests, Manhattan Project committee covers the nuclear race between the Allied and Axis Powers during the Second World War. The delegates will be traversing one of the biggest technological breakthroughs in history. Delegates will use portfolio powers, as well as national assets, to try and win the nuclear race. Continuing on, the Emu War committee takes place in the 1930s during one of the few times a country has gone to war and lost to birds. The delegates' role will be to handle the evolution of this war and try to actually win it. Lastly, Set during the second Red Scare, the Red Scare committee follows the historically infamous panic experienced by the United States against communism during their conflict with the Soviet Union. The heightened paranoia of foreign influence is affecting the United States in dramatic ways, with traitors and innocent individuals alike being accused arbitrarily of having communist ties.
We also have one futuristic committee- Cyber Warfare, 2040. This futuristic crisis is a specially designed concept that brings together a group of highly influential technological figures, such as Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk, to use their individual powers to address a central goal and crisis timeline. As hundreds of cyberattacks are flooding in, addressing the evolving threats promptly is key.
For our two JCCs, we will have committees focused on the Golden Age of Piracy, and Dune. The Dune JCC takes place right after the attack on House Atreides, Arrakis unstable. One side of the JCC focuses on the Imperium, and the other room represents the Fremen. Together, clashes are ensured. The Golden Age of Piracy JCC takes place during the early 17th century after the War of the Spanish Succession. With imperialist countries weakened and many citizens helpless, people began turning to piracy as a means to survive. Seeking for stability, pirates establish a secret safe haven to continue their economic and personal labors, forcing the imperialists to fight and stop their efforts. Within the committee, the pirates and imperialists' sides will skirmish with one another---or possibly create alliances to improve social, economic, or personal standings in this time of turmoil.
Meet your Directors!
Hi! My name is Nika Pekarsky and I will be this year’s SCIMUNC Backroom Director. This is my third year on the Model UN team here at Bronx Science, I am so excited to help bring you all a great and exciting conference! From creative crisis arcs to collaborative discussions, I have had a blast chairing and participating in many Crisis Committees! On top of Model UN, I partake in student government organization and clubs, as well as figure skate and play the violin. I am looking forward to a great SCIMUNC, and I hope for you as delegates to enjoy learning more about your fascinating committee topics and to create unique crisis arcs!
Hello Delegates! It is my absolute pleasure to welcome you all to SciMUNC XVIII here at The Bronx High School of Science. My name is Nicholas Anderson, and I am thrilled to be serving as your Crisis Frontroom Director this year’s conference. This will be my fourth and final year on the Bronx Science Model UN team, and though my time with this incredible team is coming to an end, I am more excited than ever to help create an exciting, challenging, and rewarding SciMUNC experience for you all. Throughout this conference, you will be faced with complex issues that will push your creativity, diplomacy, and critical thinking to new heights. I am excited to see the unique perspective, problem-solving, and teamwork you will bring to the challenge. If I have learned anything from my time on this team, it is that MUN is not just about debate–it’s about collaboration and learning how to be effective leaders in an increasingly interconnected world. I have no doubt that together we will make SciMUNC XVIII truly extraordinary!
