SciMUNC 2023

Running a Conference

The Committee: SciMUNC is the Bronx Science Model UN Conference. It takes place once annually and is a big event to organize. Every member involved has a different role, all of which are crucial for the success of the conference. Although each member of the team may have personal motives, they all must work together to ensure that a successful SciMUNC happens. In this committee, delegates will assume the role of one of the members of the SciMUNC team. The key responsibility of the SciMUNC team is to run the conference smoothly and efficiently. If problems arise that interfere with the progression and functioning of the conference, it is the responsibility of the SciMUNC team to solve them and restore the conference to working capacity.

The Topic: SciMUNC has a no-tolerance policy on electronic devices in committee sessions, plagiarism, the use of AI to write papers, and pre-writing any written documents. However, many actions can be seen as academic dishonesty to some while seeming honest to others. The SciMUN team will have to navigate these moral gray areas, figuring out what falls under academic dishonesty, while maintaining the integrity of the conference. The SciMUN team is tasked with codifying, clarifying, and enforcing the rules of the conference, including DOE trip rules. Enforcement of these rules and the punishments for breaking them is entirely up to the SciMUN team. SciMUNC is funded by the Bronx Science Alumni Association. However, the SciMUNC team has full control of these funds for use in the conference. The Foundation are keeping a close eye on the conference and are ready to defund the team if it begins to give the school a bad name. For this committee, delegates will be entrusted with ensuring that all SciMUNC attendees stay safe and healthy while at the conference. Each year, the Bronx Science MUN team brings in food and drinks for attending delegates to have at the conference. It is mandatory that varsity members list what potential allergens are included in their food and dietary restrictions such as being vegetarian, kosher, or halal must be accommodated.
